What a lovely story. I could relate from the start, having been self-employed my whole life and, therefore, without access to paid vacations, sick leave, unemployment insurance, etc. The only think I had access to was to pay for these things for the others that got them.

The rest -- well, I brought in a PC Jr and I don't know if there was any other one in the country at the time. And I went into a computer store, a large one, and was looking for something and saw they had a connection to bitnet or something back then (1980s). I told them to watch me as I sent out a message to a friend and got an immediate response that totally blew them away! It was fun.

Hats off! Like you, I've been self-employed all my life. At first I was an itinerant Business English teacher (tutoring CEO's, bank managers etc. whose native language wasn't English) For the last 30 years I've been a full time musician.

Selling (in my case my music - but it can be anything) is the TOUGHEST gig in the world. Anyone who has achieved even a modicum of success - read: put bread on the table and paid the rent - kudos 👍
