(Facebook comment) Boy, I remember that incident. I didn't hear anything till the morning because our bedroom didn't face the street. But I had a full house as it was the year of Shmuly's bar mitzvah. Fun and games.
I literally held off reading this, fearing I'd recognize someone... I did a month-long stint in the Abasanim (Google the locale) and can breathe and vouch for every word of the experience.
Ahhhh the memories that flowed from reading this are like an acid flashback. I was stationed in central Gaza city and our base was surrounded by high berms of earth with towers in the corners and in both sides of our gate. The other base I was in was better it had a real dinning hall though we never got to eat a full meal being called out 24/7 it was an amazing period of weight loss for me. But the hot showers that we got to use made up for it .
And the company office was manned by some of the nicest females I'd met in the army. They always invited us English speakers up to the office for iced cold drinks and English lessons. But business was good so yeah guzzle it and go get back in the Jeep and roll. Come back covered in dust and tear gas and our own blood from the rocks etc. clean up then out again ..
Wowww. Just wow. I got shivers . Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
And P.S. You are THE story-teller.
(blush)
Thank you.

This is a comment from our next door neighbor in Gan Or.
Appreciate all the details-really puts the reader right there with you.
Thank you Ronda. That's a great compliment for a writer!

Where?
Google doesn't seem to know it.
Excellent story telling. Like Ronda, I was right there. Looking forward to the next chapter! 😁
Thank you Rebekah!
