The following quote from Ehud's essay is stark poetic justice hiding in beautifully articulated verse.
"Europe is nothing more than a vast Jewish graveyard, howbeit with a potency not foreseen by the Nazis. For the very ashes that flew skyward from the crematoriums settled back down in widespread arcs, fertilizing the ground, being absorbed into the fowl and fauna that are nurtured from that consecrated earth, absorbed into the bodies and souls and of the perpetrators and their descendants. A Chernobyl-like fallout of Divine Morality. You wanted to get rid of your Jews? They are now part of your DNA, pointing an accusing finger from within."
Hester panim may be an apropos thought/feeling, however just as Psalm 102 reiterates, G-d has a plan and is working it out, even during hester panim. I believe you are correct in stating our response is to turn to Him and cry out for His help. Perhaps along the lines of Daniel 9? But, who am I to say.
Ehud, Thank you for this thoughtful response. This is why argument is so important when it is for the sake of heaven rather than for the sake of human pride or to "own" the other side. We should do more of this. You took my response to your original and built upon it, producing an analysis that is, if anything stronger, more persuasive and more cogent. I want to think through a further response, perhaps in a different article but we will see. The conclusion is that there is a reason to study events in havruta. Our trandition is on to something.
Two issues I do want to bring up concerning your reservations about Fabian's reports. I think he cannot be held responsible for the news he reported and his responsibility as a journalist is not to make the news but to report it accurately.
I agree that the IDF investigating itself is a problem, but recall that the PM refuses to have a national commission of inquiry. The findings of the IDF will hopefully serve as a resource for such a commission when it ultimately arises.

This is a seriously thoughtful post. So many layers. Perhaps much like Shelah's paintings.

Agreed. We need more of this. Especially now. Let's find a way. As always, looking forward to your response.
